The idea for The Learning Curve
generated from the Spaces
for Learning Conference in
Glasgow. The conference which
took place at the end of October
2005 promoted the idea that space
should be a place to motivate
learners and promote learning
as an activity. The dedication
and speed of our Board and
Management Team in making
the concept into reality in such a
short time frame is commendable.
The design of its individual spaces is flexible
to accommodate both current and evolving
pedagogies. The creative use of space enables
future-proofing by allowing responsive
re-designation,re-allocation or reconfiguration
of space as appropriate. Currently staff are
experimenting with small group briefings,
self study groups and enjoying the space as
meeting venues. Within the space we have
also created the Equalities and Assistive
Technologies Centre to allow us to assess the
needs of our learners and provide them with
cutting edge assistive learning technologies
and one to one support from experienced
empathetic staff. Our aim is to look beyond
tried and tested technologies and pedagogies,
be creative, energise and inspire our learners
and tutors.
The Board, management and staff commitment
to develop the potential of all of our learners
for the 21st century is demonstrated through
the achievemnt of this project.
